TALLAHASSEE, FL—MAY 24, 2024—Independent Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was nominated Thursday for President of the United States by the Reform Party. The national committee of the Reform Party met last night and voted to nominate Kennedy, granting him ballot access in Florida and providing a major fundraising advantage.

"The driving potential in this marriage is principles,” said Reform Party Chairman Nick Hensley. “Even though Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Reform Party do not agree on every issue, both the Reform Party and RFK Jr. agree on listening to the opposition, debating facts, and understanding that you can't discount a solution just because it came from your political rivals. True leaders will listen to those around them, and forge consensus, regardless of political affiliation.”

Currently, individuals can donate a maximum of $6,600 to the campaign. With the Reform Party nomination, the party will be able to raise an additional $41,300 from individual donors and spend it in coordination with the campaign to support Kennedy. The party contribution limit is more than six times the campaign contribution limit, supercharging Kennedy’s fundraising. 

“Much gratitude to the Reform Party for its nomination offering me ballot access in Florida,” said Kennedy. “I couldn’t resonate more with the Reform Party’s motto, ‘It’s time to put people first.’ I am grateful to accept the nomination, grow the independent movement, and take our shared principles all the way to the White House.”

The Reform Party was founded in 1996 by supporters of Ross Perot, the most successful independent candidate in the last century before Kennedy’s run. The party’s rules call for it to nominate a presidential candidate, who then picks their vice-presidential candidate. Kennedy accepted the Reform Party nomination and chose Nicole Shanahan as his running mate. The party refiled its Florida state party paperwork this week to run Kennedy. 

The Kennedy campaign has launched a robust ballot access plan to ensure the Kennedy-Shanahan ticket is on the ballot in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The ballot access plan is fully funded costing more than $15 million.

The Kennedy-Shanahan ticket is officially on the ballot in seven states — Utah, Michigan, California, Delaware, Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Texas. It has collected enough signatures for ballot access in eight other states — New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio, and New Jersey. 

The Kennedy-Shanahan campaign has collected the signatures needed for ballot access in 15 states, totaling 201 electoral votes, 37% of the 538 total electoral votes nationwide. Florida will add another 30 electoral votes.

On May 1, the Kennedy campaign released results from a Zogby poll showing Kennedy beats both Presidents Biden and Trump in head-to-head matchups. Trump defeats Biden handily. Kennedy beats President Trump in a two-way race, by a tight margin. In a two-way race between Kennedy and President Biden, Kennedy wins in a landslide. Kennedy is the first independent ever to defeat both major party candidates in head-to-head matchups.
