RFK Jr. Plans to File Lawsuit Against Nevada Over Ballot Access

CBS News reports:   Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is planning to file a lawsuit against the Nevada Secretary of State's office, CBS News has learned, nearly two months after learning that his campaign would likely have to restart signature gathering in the Silver State. In early March, the campaign announced that it had collected more than 15,000 signatures in Nevada, but before Kennedy had named a running mate, which is required by state law to start the petition process for independent candidates.  In late March, the Nevada Secretary of State's Office acknowledged, however, that a staffer wrongly informed the campaign that it did not need to name a vice-presidential pick on the petition. However, in a statement Thursday provided to CBS News, Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar said his office is prepared to face Kennedy in court, given that his campaign received guidance with the statutes made clear. Robert Kennedy Jr. Getting Spot on South Carolina November Presidential Ballot, But Where?

The Post and Courier: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be listed on the South Carolina presidential ballot by running under the banner of one of the state’s lesser-known political movements — the Alliance Party. The nomination means Kennedy will be included on thousands of South Carolina voting machines in November as his effort to make it on all 50 state ballots nationally has otherwise been slow in materializing. South Carolina Alliance Party co-founder Jim Rex said the group agreed to accept Kennedy as their nominee about a week ago and that he was nominated by its leadership via conference call. “It turned out to be a great fit for the Alliance Party,” Rex said. “I proudly accept the Alliance Party’s nomination for president of the United States,” Kennedy said in a media release. “Their leadership and members have demonstrated an inspiring commitment to values that revitalize our representative democracy.” Read the full article here.

RFK Jr. Voters Are With Him

NPR reports:   Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign is the political equivalent of a Rorschach test: it's open to interpretation, it aims to be a lot of different things to a lot of different people and its significance and meaning are squarely in the eyes of the beholder. Kennedy’s independent bid is marketed as an alternative choice for those who don’t like President Biden, former President Donald Trump or the two-party system the country operates under. Democrats and Republicans see the campaign as a threat that could siphon away enough of their voters in key swing states to tip the election to the other side. But what about his supporters? They’re people like Susan Parker, who traveled from Norman, Okla., to Nashville this month for a comedy show put on by the campaign at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Despite never donating to a presidential candidate before, Parker maxed out campaign contributions to RFK, as he's often known, after listening to him speak on various podcasts and in other longform interviews where he shared his political philosophy. “I feel like I've gotten to know him as a person, I see him think and everything,” she added. “So that's what excites me about him being in this race — it’s a third choice.” Read the full article here. RFK Jr. Backers Celebrate As They Turn In Petitions To Get Him On The New York Ballot

WXXI reports:   Supporters of Robert Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign delivered petitions Tuesday as they work to get him on the New York state ballot. Saying the time has come to unite the county and provide voters another option, Kennedy backers turned in more than 130,000 signatures – nearly three times the 45,000 requirement — to choruses of “New York, New York” at the Board of Elections in Albany. Will Boothby, the campaign’s Northeast regional director, says Kennedy addresses commonsense issues. “The corruption in our agencies, the corporate capture, home ownership, I want an America that everyone's getting along. Political discourse needs to cut back to a point that we are coming together for problem solving. I don't think Biden or Trump are capable of that,” Boothby said. Campaign volunteer David Freedman points to Kennedy’s environmental advocacy. “He actually has fought the government and won. And that's why, someone who has a history of changing things,” Freedman said. He says Kennedy is appealing to voters on both sides. Read the full article here. RFK Jr. Files FEC Complaint Demanding CNN Include Him in Debate

Newsweek reports:   The Robert F. Kennedy Jr. campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission claiming that CNN, President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump and their election committees colluded to exclude Kennedy from a planned June 27 televised debate. The complaint, filed Tuesday and addressed to FEC Acting General Counsel Lisa Stevenson, accuses the parties of designing criteria "to result in the selection of certain pre-chosen participants, namely Biden and Trump, in a clear breach of federal campaign finance law." The complaint introduces an element of doubt as to whether the debate—scheduled to take place at CNN's studio in Atlanta—can legally take place if Kennedy is excluded, given it could be interpreted as campaign contributions to Biden and Trump, according to Kennedy's attorneys. The letter notes that The Washington Post reported that "Biden advisers quickly let it be known that they had not agreed to any terms that could include Kennedy" and also that CNN producers promised Trump aides that "RFK will not be on the stage." The complaint also says that Biden's Committee wrote a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates saying "the debates should be one-on-one," even though both Biden and Trump have been "working around the Commission" in favor of allowing CNN to host. Also, the complaint notes, "CNN, itself, reported that the Trump Committee would not agree to a debate including Candidate Kennedy," and it reported that "calling for earlier debates might also help weed out third-party candidates that could cause problems for both Trump and Biden." RFK Jr.'s Path To The June Debate

Axios reports:   Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a shot to make the June presidential debate, but the clock is ticking on two challenging thresholds. Why it matters: He would be the first independent presidential candidate to make the debate stage in 32 years — and just the third in presidential debate history. Kennedy has the financial support, aggressive ballot access plan, and strong polling to make his long-shot endeavor a fight. Kennedy has blasted Biden and Trump over the June debate, accusing them of "colluding" against his campaign to "avoid discussion of their eight years of mutual failure." Read the full article here. How About A Reasonable Person With Common Sense Solutions For President?

The Baltimore Sun reports:   Right now the DNC is doing everything it can to keep Robert Kennedy Jr. off as many ballots as possible, thus denying millions of Americans the opportunity to even consider him as a candidate. Seems a strange thing for “Saviors of Democracy” to do. Whether you like him or not, shouldn’t people have the right to vote for Kennedy if they wish? At this point, I would gladly embrace a reasonable person who seeks common sense solutions to the myriad of problems facing the country, rather than one who uses those problems to divide the American electorate to gain political advantage. I do not have to agree with every position a candidate holds. That said, a person’s character is important to me. I’m not looking for a saint, just a decent, thinking human being. I believe there are still such people out there. Perhaps Kennedy is one of them. Say what you want about Kennedy, I find his candor and willingness to stand up to the Democratic Party machinery refreshing, but his candor is precisely why Democrats are working hard to shut him up. Kennedy is simply not partisan enough. He doesn’t play ball and never learned how to put the interests of the party ahead of the interests of the country. Read the full opinion piece here. RFK Jr. Woos Libertarians By Accusing Trump And Biden Of Trampling On The Constitution

The Washington Examiner reports:   Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. assailed both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump‘s records while speaking at the Libertarian National Convention on Friday afternoon. Opening his speech lambasting the restrictions put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic under Trump, Kennedy said the former president “presided over the greatest restriction on individual liberties this country has ever known.” “He didn’t stand up for the Constitution when it really mattered,” Kennedy said. In a moment of levity, Kennedy joked about his “brain worm,” referencing a 2012 deposition uncovered by the New York Times in which Kennedy said a doctor ascribed his memory lapses to a parasite eating part of his brain and then dying. “Maybe a brain worm ate that part of my memory, but I don’t recall any part of the United States Constitution where there’s an exemption for pandemics,” Kennedy said of the restrictions put in place during the COVID-19 health emergency. Kennedy drew applause from the crowd multiple times throughout his speech, which he centered on perceived violations of the Constitution seen under the Trump and Biden administrations. “The Constitution isn’t just a legal document, it’s also an inspirational document, and that’s why if you treasure your freedom, you better elect leaders who are inspired by it and who will wield it to inspire others,” Kennedy said. “I’m sorry to say neither President Trump nor President Biden pass this critical examination,” Kennedy added. “Neither of them upheld the Constitution when it really counted.” Read the full article here. Kennedy Blasts Biden, Trump Over Pandemic Measures in Pitch At Libertarian Convention

Associated Press reports:   Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accused Joe Biden and Donald Trump Friday of trampling on personal liberties in response to the pandemic that spanned their presidencies. Kennedy, who has long claimed to be a victim of government and media censorship of his unorthodox views, said Americans have lost faith in their leaders and institutions, and he pledged to restore it. “Maybe a brain worm ate that part of my memory, but I don’t recall any part of the United States Constitution where there’s an exemption for pandemics,” Kennedy said, referencing a New York Times report that he was diagnosed more than a decade ago with a parasite that lodged in his brain. “Neither of them upheld the Constitution when it really counted,” he said of the current and former president. RFK Jr. Nominated By Reform Party In Florida

Spectrum News reports:   The Reform Party has nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for president in Florida, the independent's campaign announced Friday. Formed by independent presidential candidate Ross Perot three years after he lost the 1992 election to Democrat Bill Clinton, the centrist party was designed to present a third alternative to Democrats and Republicans and uses purple as its official color. “The driving potential in this marriage is principles,” Reform Party Chairman Nick Hensley said in a statement about the nomination. “Even though Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Reform Party do not agree on every issue, both the Reform Party and RFK Jr. agree on listening to the opposition, debating facts and understanding that you can’t discount a solution just because it came from your political rivals. True leaders will listen to those around them and force consensus, regardless of party affiliation.” The Reform Party has nominated a handful of other presidential candidates over the years, including consumer rights advocate Ralph Nader in 2004 and former White House Communications Director and Republican Pat Buchanan in 2000. Neither was successful. “I couldn’t resonate more with the Reform Party’s motto, ‘It’s time to put people first,’” Kennedy said in a statement. “I am grateful to accept the nomination and grow the independent movement and take our shared principles all the way to the White House.” Read the full article here. RFK Jr. Wants Presidential Debate On X

The Hill reports:   Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he wants to have a presidential debate on social platform X, arguing the platform has a far wider audience reach than news networks that are set to host debates in the upcoming months.  “X is where the debate should be,” Kennedy said in a Wednesday post on X. “The new public square with 100x the audience of CNN. @realDonaldTrump, I know you’ve got the guts to do it. Do you want to call @POTUS or should I?”  Kennedy initially asked X owner Elon Musk if the billionaire could host a debate on the social platform. Musk agreed, and Kennedy called for the debate to be hosted on the social media platform. Read the full article here.
