Politicians Back RFK Jr.'s Ask to Get Secret Service Protection

Politico reports:

The Robert F. Kennedy Jr. campaign’s pleas for Secret Service protection for the independent presidential candidate are getting a boost in the wake of the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally.

“We have a pending formal request already lodged with DHS last week,” Kennedy security consultant Gavin de Becker told POLITICO in a text message.

Kennedy and his team have been hypersensitive to his safety as a candidate because of the assassinations of his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, and his father, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, who was killed on the campaign trail in 1968.

Now, after Trump was shot in broad daylight at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, those concerns are being amplified by Democrats and Republicans alike.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, wrote on X that the federal government should "immediately provide secret service protection" to Kennedy. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) wrote on X: "We must enhance Secret Service protection for all major presidential candidates, including Robert Kennedy, Jr."
